There was only one senior match this weekend, but what a match. The Goulburn Dirty Reds women’s team closed out the home and away season with a dominant 59-5 win against the Yass Ewes that included a major milestone for skipper Ash Mewburn. They now move into the playoffs, meeting Uni-Norths at Queanbeyan in the major semi-final, while the men have one more round match at home before their semis begin. And even though the Goulburn men’s teams had a bye, their competitions didn’t so we’ve got those results and tables below as always.
Let’s have a look back at the weekend.

Women’s 10s: The Goulburn women finished off the season proper with a scintillating 59 to 5 win over the Yass Rams. The nine tries to one win proved a great opportunity to work through some plays and practice not letting up on an opponent. Goulburn scored four tries to one in the first half, before ramping up for 5 unanswered tries in the second half. The club’s leading tryscorer for 2023 Chloe Waddell further increased her tally with two more, with Josephine O’Brien also claiming a pair.
One of the most memorable features of the game was Ash Mewburn’s achievement of 300 points for the club. Ash went into the game needing 19 points to reach that mark, and as she converted the majority of the tries, the target grew closer as the game went on. Seven minutes before full time, scoring her own try and converting it, Ash was just two points shy of the milestone and a chance of having to wait at least a week, but then two minutes before full time, O’Brien scored her second try, giving Ash a chance to reach 300 points which she accepted with open arms.
The exact moment Ash Mewburn kicked her 300th club point, captured by Pete Oliver.
Ash now joins the list of twelve players to have reached that milestone (sadly our records don’t cover many games before 1988) and if she can score 13 more points in the playoffs, she will be in the top 10 highest scorers for the club – a great achievement given how much she has done to get women’s rugby off the ground in Goulburn, and how few years the women’s team has been running for her to achieve this goal so quickly (bearing in mind she had a year off to have a bub!). Well done Goulburn women for finishing the season in 2nd place, and congrats to Ash for being first through another door.
Next weekend the Goulburn women will meet top ranked Uni Norths at Queanbeyan for the major semi-final. The loser will get a second bite of the cherry but the Reds will be pumped to get a win on a team that has edged them out twice this year.
