Experienced or want to give rugby union a go?

Well, Goulburn Rugby Union Football Club is seeking women of all ages and abilities interested in playing Rugby Union to join.

Though anyone can sign up, they want to get enough players to enter a 15s team next season.

There are players in the team who have never picked up a ball, while others have played before. Some also have their sights set on representative opportunities in the future.

Those that join will have the privilege of being under the guidance of head coach Ash Kara, who has a brilliant resume.

She was selected in the 2018 ACT Brumbies Women’s Super W Squad of 30 and earlier this year, she was chosen for the Brumbies team.

Kara, an avid supporter of the sport, and said those involved would benefit both on and off the field.

“Rugby union is a sport like no other,” she said.

“You will develop lifelong skills in passing, kicking, catching, tackling, resilience, respect, courage, sportsmanship and camaraderie on the field.

“Off the field, you will create lifelong mates who you will potentially travel anywhere in the world to play rugby.”

Fitness, ball skills, tackling techniques and game play will be focuses in the sessions.

There are a few Rugby 7s tournaments coming up including the Queanbeyan 7s on Saturday, October 13, the Wagga Wagga 7s on Saturday, November 10 and the Kiama 7s early in March next year.

Kara said “the club is coming to stay and wants your involvement.”

“If you have a lot of experience or no experience at all, we want you to come along,” she said.

“Bring along girlfriends, sisters, aunties, mothers and grandmothers.

“If you want to try something new, then we really want you.”
