Recap
Comp leaders Daramalan too strong for Barbarians
By MATT KLEM
The Barbarians came up against the undefeated competition leaders Daramalan yesterday.
Daramalan have 11 ACTJRU representatives in their side and this showed yesterday defeating the Barbarians 59 – 0 at their home ground in a polished performance from the Daramalan boys.
Barbarians started the game extremely well controlling the breakdown and possession for the first 15 minutes.
Daramalan soon stamped their authority on the game running in four first half tries to lead 26 – 0 at half time.
The Barbarians played some great rugby, although they need to polish up on their defence as the Daramalan boys made inroads through our defensive line.
Hamish Dalglish made some great runs along with Zac Riley-Meijer chiming in and putting the Daramalan defence under pressure.
Jonah Ryan made some snipping runs along with Malakia making some good runs and some try-saving tackles.
Tyrese was cleaning well at the breakdown along with Toby Klem. Jack Purcell and Sam Glover were in the mix of things in a forward pack that tried hard all game against a very experienced and well drilled Daramalan team.
The Barbarians improved in facets of play from the previous week though were a bit blown away by the Daramalan team that has a wealth of representative players in their side.
Daramalan ran in five tries in the second half to eventually run out winners 59 – 0
Credit to the Barbarians team as they never threw the towel in against a Daramalan side that has played together since U10s. They haven’t been defeated in the past four years, winning all of their games, which is a great credit to the Daramalan team and coaching staff.
The team will now have a few weeks off due to school holidays and will use that time to work on identified areas.
Best and fairest players were Zac Riley-Meijer (3), Hamish Dalglish (2) and Toby Klem (1).
