Record-breaking win for Dirty Reds Women

Not only did their win against the Bungendore Mudchooks maintain their undefeated status in the Women’s 10s Development League, but the 109-0 scoreline also saw the Goulburn Dirty Reds Women enter the club’s record books for the highest score by a Dirty Reds team in a competition match.

The ladies ran in 17 tries in a dominant display but it wasn’t just with the ball that Goulburn made an impact.

The Mighty Ducks had the Bash Brothers. Goulburn Rugby now has the Smash Sisters. Jasmine and Maddy Tooth, in their first game together for the Dirty Reds, made their presence felt as they seemed to compete to see who could pull off the biggest hit.

A number of Mudchicks players were on the receiving end of some thunderous collisions, and there would no doubt have been some very sore bodies waking up in Bungendore on Sunday.

The home side showed they could mix it with the Reds, building up six or seven phases of attack. However, too often they would kick the ball away aimlessly, and Goulburn would make them pay.

The majority of Goulburn’s tries came from long range, usually on the counterattack from one of these kicks. When Goulburn did have the ball, the ladies kept their structure and their discipline, building pressure and running in tries regularly.

Try after try, they fell like rain, spread fairly evenly across the team with only three of the squad not crossing.

Best and fairest points went to Bella Sheen (3), Hollie Deaton (2) and Maddy Tooth (1).
