Nail-biter as 16s fall just short against Eddies

From the very beginning, Goulburn ran out of the sheds into a packed tunnel full of our Goulburn Seniors.
The boys felt privileged running onto the field for their very first home game in front of an overwhelming cheer from the home crowd.
Goulburn knew that their second-round match against a strong St Eddies side would be a tough battle.
From kick-off Goulburn lost a few early turnovers that placed Eddies in a position which dominated the first 10mins.
Goulburn’s defence held Eddies out from crossing the line and soon after Goulburn had a lucky break which saw the ball in our hands until a hole in the Eddies line opened up to allow Goulburn in for a try.
The intensity grew and just before half time Goulburn were handed a penalty to secure them an 8 – 0 lead with the blow of the half time whistle.
The second half started off with the same intensity however errors with the ball allowed Eddies to dig in and eventually run the ball through their backline and over Goulburn’s line.
Unfortunately from the restart Eddies took the ball and ran back to our 22. A few more lapses in getting off our line saw Eddies run in with another 5 pointer.
With minutes remaining Goulburn were handed another penalty 30 out in front of the sticks however chose to take the tap and push on to again cross the line but the try was disallowed.
Final score Eddies 10 Goulburn 8. Goulburn 16’s are away next week against Canberra Grammar. The boys need to learn from today’s game and ensure that they build and hold the intensity for the full 60mins.
