Strong finish wasn’t quite enough for Goulburn U16s

Another week, another wet rugby game.

This week Goulburn’s away game took them head-on against Marist Royal.

After last week’s narrow loss, Goulburn knew what was required to defeat the leading team in the competition.

From kickoff, Goulburn took the ball forward with a number of consecutive piston runs from the ruck which after 5 minutes had Marist baffled deep in their half.

After a turn over Goulburn showed the same defensive intensity as last week, however with a structured Marist backline, Marist found a break which then allowed their forward pack to run the ball in for the games first try.

Despite this break in play, Goulburn continued to defend well. Unfortunately a number of drop balls and incomplete plays saw Goulburn’s possession percentage drop and by half time Marist led 21 – 0.

With almost a repeat of last week’s second-half Goulburn worked well defensively to hold Marist out with zero points right to the final whistle.

The boys had momentum, which allowed them to gain better position downfield, however Marist also kept Goulburn to zero points on the board.

Final score Marist 21 – Goulburn 0.

After the game the boys were commended for their efforts and will now meet Daramalan next week at home.
