Tough day at the office for Under 16s

After last week’s loss the U16’s knew that they would need to up the tempo and give it all against the competition leaders Marist Royal at our last home game of the 2020 season.

The first half saw Goulburn apply enough pressure that at times it had the Marist on their toes and frustrated that Goulburn’s defensive line seemed unbreakable.

Goulburn’s discipline around the ruck was impressive and their offensive plays were structured with a number of line breaks. Unfortunately, Marist did eventually run the ball wide and cross the line.

This didn’t faze the U16’s and they bounced back not long after with a try and successful conversion. With the game in Goulburn’s favour the boys continued to up the tempo and at times this again had Marist looking lost.

However, Marist soon regrouped and the away team crossed for two more tries before half time with the score 7 – 15 Marist. After a short break the U16’s knew the game wasn’t over.

The second half started with an unlucky bounce from Goulburn’s kickoff which fell into a Marist hand and saw them run in for a quick try.

Goulburn continued to apply pressure however after a huge first half the boys were gassed and this allowed Marist to take control and run away with the game.

Final score Marist 46 – Goulburn 7.

Regardless of the score, the boys should be extremely proud of their efforts. Next week we face St Edmunds in Canberra for the Div2 Final.
