Confident start for firsts
The first grade match and reserve grade matches couldn’t have been more different. Well they could, if Goulburn had lost. But the tone of the two matches were like chalk and something very unchalky.
Where the reserves, particularly in their first half, ran through and around their opposition almost at will, first grade had to work a little harder for their points.
Lengthy segments of the game were glued to a spot on the field as the rival packs sought to stamp their superiority. With that earned, Goulburn’s backs capitalised with a five tries to two result.
Fresh from his international sojourn, Jordan Lees marked his return with two tries and all other tries went to backs (Jackson Reardon, Matt Spratley and Adam Lachlan. Captain-coach and ACT Rugby’s highest point scorer Mikael Webber potted four conversions for the win.
The Reds will be at home next weekend to Hall, coached this year by former Dirty Red coach Darren Solomon.
