Gutsy game against competition leaders

While it wasn’t a win, it was a gutsy performance by the Goulburn women in their 24-10 loss to competition leaders against Uni Norths.

Uni Norths dominated the first half, ahead by 17-7 but with the Reds starting to turn the tables in the final five minutes of the half.

That pressure continued in the second half resulting in a penalty goal that put Goulburn just a converted try down at 17-10.

And there it stayed. For most of that second-half it was all Goulburn. For 30 of the 35 minutes Uni Norths weren’t able to get the ball across the half-way line. But while Goulburn held the whip hand, they weren’t able to convert pressure and territory into points as Uni Norths’ defence held solid.

And that would have seemed a fair representation of the team, but Uni Norths rallied and finally broke post midway, spending the last five minutes in Goulburn’s half with a try eventually coming their way in the last minute of play.

This was the closest result for the Dirty Reds against Uni Norths in all of their XVs rugby encounters. The second half in particular highlighted their tenacity and showed the team they can match it with the competition leaders. For Uni Norths, in the end it was a clear four tries to one victory that keeps them safely at the top of the table.
