Dauntless Dirty Reds downed by Whites

With nothing to play for but pride, the Goulburn Dirty Reds first grade side… again (as usual this season) overwhelmingly comprised of players who’d played in the previous match, lost by 5 tries to 4 to the Queanbeyan Whites.

As with last week Goulburn was first and last to score on a pretty miserable day at Taylor Park in Queanbeyan. And for only the second time this season, Goulburn went to the break ahead, with a 15-14 lead. Craig McKillop, Josh Condylios and Niki Naureure all crossed but windy conditions made wide out conversions difficult.

From the restart, though, Queanbeyan was first to score. And second. And third. The freezing conditions were energy sapping and the much bigger and fresher Queanbeyan team fared better as the game continued.

In the latter half of the second half, Goulburn contributed many promising attacks that didn’t amount to tries, but one last rallying attempt put Niki Naureure over for his second try, this one converted by Brandon Courts, for the 33-22 loss.

Under the circumstances, scoring just one try less than Queanbeyan was a formidable effort – another match that showed even in a losing result the side retained it’s discipline and desire for the full 70 minutes.

Next weekend both men’s teams will play Tuggeranong at home for sponsors day.
