Recap

Whites take the points against Dirty Twos

By Chris Gordon

This one will be filed away in the “ones that got away” folder, with Goulburn within five points of their opponents for all but 5 minutes of the game, but it was nonetheless a gallant effort in their 17-12 loss to Queanbeyan.

With two junior matches and the senior women’s match being played before hand, the ground was turning into a swamp in areas, particularly the Addison Street end, and both sides set to fitting their game to conditions.

Queanbeyan were particularly adept at short chips over the defensive line and regathering and only took 12 minutes to be on the board. It took just another 12 for Josh Condylios to cross for Goulburn an scores were briefly level before Queanbeyan crossed again 5 minutes out from half time.

Once again, the first 10 minutes of the second half proved to be the danger zone for Goulburn with the Whites crossing for their third try, this time converted, just one minute after the break. Five minutes later a Matt Cudaj try and a Patrick Craig conversion reduced the gap back to five points and that remained the difference through until full time.

For the Dirty Twos it was a frustrating result with a win within reach at all teams, and a win would have put them in fifth spot and just a few points out of the four.

Amongst the positives – Goulburn had good numbers again, with only a couple backing up in the following game, and the assistance of former Dirty Reds including Harry Newby and Matt Cudaj helped give the side every chance of a win. Also, congrats to Josh Metz who played his 50th game for the Reds.

Next weekend both men’s teams take on Gungahlin at Nicholls Enclosed Oval while the women are away to the Jindabyne Bushpigs at JJ Connors Oval.
