The Goulburn Women’s team made its debut on August 20, 2011 in a game of touch football against an invitational side as part of a fund-raising day for “Say NO to Domestic Violence.”
Other similar games followed in the following years.
They’ve been called the Flirty Reds, the Dirty Birds and plain old Dirty Reds.
For their first few years, the women’s side played in only in pre-season sevens rugby tournaments.
In 2019 they fielded a team in the ACT Women’s 10s competition, went through the season undefeated, and took out the premiership. In 2020, in their first season of 15 a side rugby, the team made the semi-finals. Skip ahead to 2024 and the undefeated Goulburn Women’s 10s were both Minor Premiers and Premiers
THIS YEAR
In the 2025 season the Goulburn Women’s team will makes its triumphant return to the Canberra Premier Womens Division, XV a side competition. There they will battle teams from Gungahlin, Queanbeyan, Royals, Tuggeranong, Uni Norths, Wests on a home and away basis – this year playing the same opponents as the Goulburn men’s teams every weekend.
We would love for you to be a part of the journey this year and it’s never too late to start. We are looking for women all ages, sizes, heights and abilities! Mothers, sisters, aunties and friends! Everyone is welcome to join in.
We are friendly, fun and enjoy having a run with lots of fitness, contact and enjoying social outings. We train hard and participate in community activities from time to time! We support each other in all we do and if you need someone to look after your kids so you can train then we will find a sitter for you! Most of all we LOVE playing rugby!!
Training session are on Tuesdays and Thursday’s at 6pm at either Rugby Park or Carr Confoy Park with monthly team dinners at the club’s Major Sponsor, the Hibernian Hotel.
